Job Description: REPORTS TO THE NURSING MANAGER IN THE AMBULATORY CARE DEPT. THE EDUCATOR IS SELF-DIRECTED AND REQUIRES MINIMUM SUPERVISION. CONTACTS WITH STAFF, CLIENTS/FAMILIES, OTHER HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS AND STUDENTS ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE POSITION. OFTEN ACTS AS A RESOURCE TO OUTSIDE AGENCIES, NURSING HOMES, CONTINUING NURSING EDUCATION, FOR INSERVICES/WORKSHOPS ON AREA SPECIFIC AND GENERAL PATIENT EDUCATION, AS WELL AS TEACHING/COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
Experience
REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF THREE(3) YEARS CLINICAL EXPERIENCE RELATED FAMILIES AND PATIENTS WITH ENTEROSTOMAL SPECIFIC NEEDS. PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN NURSING EDUCATION. DEMONSTRATES TEACHING SKILLS SPECIFICALLY POST RN COURSES. UNDERSTANDS THE NURSING PROCESS AND PRINCIPLES OF ADULT LEARNING. DEMONSTRATES BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS APPLICABLE TO NURSING UNITS. EXPERIENCE IN DEVELOPING PROGRAMS/RESOURCES FOR STAFF IN THE AREAS OF PLANNING, IMPLEMENTATION, QUALITY MONITORING AND EVALUATION. DEMONSTRATES TEACHING/COUNSELING SKILLS, COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND AN INTEREST IN PATIENT EDUCATION.
Education/ Training or Other requirements
-Current SRNA registration
-Successful completion from a recognized school of Enterostomal Therapy
-A BSN or Masters Degree, adult or continuing education is an asset
-requires a minimum of 3 years clinical experience related tp patients with enterostomal specific needs.
-Current CPR certification in Basic Life Support at Level C
120 hours in a 6 week rotation. Shifts (Days, Evenings, Nights) including actual hours, date of commencement and temporary end dates are for informational purpose only and may be subject to change.
