Saskatchewan Alternative Initiative (SAI) is a leader in supporting adults with intellectual disabilities in the areas of Home Support, Day Program and Semi-Independent Living.
We are currently looking for part-time Support Workers. Support hours required include overnight and daytime support (including weekends).
Primary Role Focus
To work directly in a home, assisting individuals with disabilities in all areas of their life and providing support as needed to access community activities and develop a strong quality of life.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Provide direct support and lifestyle planning consistent with SAIs beliefs, values and Gentle Teaching philosophy.
Support to individuals may include:
- Participating in an ongoing satisfaction evaluation of the individuals served.
- Assisting individuals in problem solving or decision making.
- Providing assistance to individuals in completing daily tasks.
- Sharing and/or developing options for community involvement or employment.
- Participating in team meetings and providing input, suggestions or ideas.
- Administering medication as required in a manner consistent with SAI policy and procedures.
- Liaising with health care professionals as needed.
- Completing team evaluations and other required paperwork.
- Being on-call for the Team Leader as needed.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Strong team work and collaboration.
First Aid/CPR Level C
Working knowledge of the following is an asset:
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention Techniques
- Augmentative Communication
Previous experience providing direct hands-on support for people with disabilities is an asset.
Related post-secondary education is an asset.
Direct experience or knowledge in Gentle Teaching is an asset.
*A clear criminal records check, valid drivers license and ability to use your own vehicle is required.
