Merchandiser (Merchant) that is jointly responsible for supplying the mill with an uninterrupted and cost-effective supply of oats. The Merchants responsibilities also include both purchasing and transportation of oats. The Merchant will purchase oats both directly from farmers and from trade suppliers, based on bid prices and latitude established by the Grain Procurement Manager. These efforts will be rooted in timely, honest communication aimed at developing strong relationships based on trust and integrity.
You will provide daily direction, leadership and assistance to Grain Receiving and Feed Mill staff as necessary. The Merchant will also manage all inbound oat logistics for the Yorkton mill, including arranging freight for FOB farm contracts, allocating space for Delivered contracts.
Successful candidates would normally possess:
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent along with post-secondary schooling in Agriculture and / or Business is a strong asset.
Minimum 3 years of experience in grain industry preferred with basic understanding of basis trading, grain hedging/risk management
Previous experience in customer relations and / or sales is an asset.
Ability to supervise and lead effectively, or ability and desire to acquire the necessary skills.
Ability to work in an environment that may be physically demanding, and may include exposure to heights and / or confined spaces.
Ability to work in an environment with exposure to allergens such as gluten and grain dust.
