North Sask Special Needs (NSN) is seeking a Mental Health and Addictions Worker to join our team in La Ronge, Saskatchewan to provide supports to individuals with intellectual disabilities and co-occurring disorders.
The successful candidate will work to meet the complex, person-centred and unique needs of intellectually disabled individuals who also face mental health and/or addictions challenges. The successful candidate will be a confident, positive role model. In addition to providing mental health and addictions supports, this individual must work collaboratively across human service sectors and jurisdictions to provide a unified response to the support of this client group within the community. Active development and maintenance of partnerships, navigation of complex systemic barriers, and effective advocacy for vulnerable clients will be required.
The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge base including an understanding of mental illness, human behavioural theories and intervention strategies. Candidates must demonstrate understanding of harm reduction principles, applied behavioural intervention, relapse prevention, family systems, crisis intervention and suicide prevention. Successful candidate will be non-judgemental and respectful of high needs clients.
Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be acquired through a degree in human services and addictions training or an equivalent combination of directly related experience and training.
