OBJECTIVE:
The Nipawin Oasis Family Support Program provides direct support services to families in their home by strengthening communication and problem-solving skills, enhancing family cohesion, while decreasing the number of children coming into the care of the Ministry.
ACTIVITIES:
- Teach appropriate parenting techniques, child development, behaviour management, life skills training and necessary skills for caring for child(ren)
- Assist families in developing a support system, accessing both formal and informal resources in the community relevant to their needs
- Provide intensive support to families during traditional as well as non-traditional hours
KNOWLEDGE:
- A Bachelors degree in social work, psychology or other human service field or combination of training and experience
- Must have knowledge understanding and sensitivity to Indigenous cultures and traditional parenting practices
- Ability to communicate in Cree is an asset
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Extensive knowledge of, and compliance with the guidelines, policies and procedures for children under The Child and Family Services Act
- Maintain confidentiality and proper storage of personal information
- Ability to establish trusting relationships and handle stressful situations
- Ability to set appropriate limits & boundaries with families
- Ability to work flex hours that includes traditional and non-traditional hours
- Self-motivated, with good organization and time management skills
- Acceptable criminal record and child vulnerability checks
- Must have a valid driver's licence, with clean abstract & insured vehicle
