Description

File Hills Qu'Appelle Tribal Council (FHQTC) is a non-profit organization that provides a range of programs and services to 11 First Nations throughout southern Saskatchewan within the Treaty Four territory. Reporting to the FHQTC Director of Education the successful candidate will be responsible:

To lead the continuation of Balanced Literacy initiatives in FHQTC schools and serve as an advocate for effective FN approaches to reading and to guide the implementation of Saskatchewan Ministry of Learning English Language Arts in Tribal Council schools;
To focus on teacher development, effective instruction practices, modelling and mentoring teachers in successful strategies which include Balanced Literacy, Fontas and Pinnell and other effective strategies that are best suited for First Nation schools;
To ensure that instruction is aligned with effective practices, students curricular needs and literacy improvement by documenting Best Practices, assessing and addressing reading deficiencies, early literacy and family literacy;
To recommend effective reading programs,  ensuring First Nations cultural and linguistic diversity is supported;
To provide professional development for the Principals and FHQTC Education staff, including Student Advocates.

Candidates will possess the following:

Minimum Bachelor of Education degree, Standard A teaching certificate and registered in Saskatchewan; Master of Education degree is preferred;
Experience and proven ability as a classroom teacher, with administrative experience and ability to mentor/instruct instructional staff;
Knowledge and commitment to the philosophy, goals and objectives of the FHQTC;
Understanding and appreciation of First Nations values, traditions, culture and language;
Ability to lead in a collaborative setting within classrooms, schools, communities and FHQTC;
Excellent oral, written, organizational and interpersonal skills.
