Description

Under the direction of the Site Manager Oncology Pharmacy Services and reporting to the most responsible Senior Drug Distribution Technician, the Drug Distribution Technician provides technical pharmacy services to the patients and clients of the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency.  The incumbent is responsible for integration of daily operational activities under the supervision of a pharmacist in an environment that is integrated with the pharmacy team to allow for maximization of the pharmacists role in client-focused patient care.  Oncology pharmacy services in a Tertiary Cancer Centre require the performance of enhanced and complex Drug Distribution Technician activities to safely and accurately provide and maintain timely drug product preparation and distribution.  These operational activities include preparation of sterile admixtures, compounding of pharmaceuticals, inventory management, drug cost management, workload information capture, preparation of oral medications for dispensing and the distribution of oncology medications and other pharmaceutical products to outpatients, inpatient nursing units and community-based (outreach) services within the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency (SCA) and the provinces Regional Health Authorities.  The Drug Distribution Technician must demonstrate a high degree of accuracy and precision in the manufacture of oncology pharmaceutical products, including adherence to all standards and safety policies in the preparation of intravenous admixtures containing hazardous drugs.

Education: - Pharmacy Technician certificate
