The Mentor position is casual and requires working with adults and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Saskatoon and area.
Work hours are depending on the needs of the family. Applicants must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
We are looking for candidates that are caring and committed individuals who are positive role models, community connectors and, enjoy building helping relationships and teaching new skills.
The Mentor position focuses on building a supportive relationship with the individual through activities in the home and community that foster independence, skill building, and self-sufficiency.
Duties include: (but are not limited to)
Building a helping relationship with the individual and family.
Providing support and assistance to individuals in an encouraging and empowering way.
To assist the individuals team by implementing goals and strategies outlined in an integrated plan.
To reinforce appropriate behaviours and be a role model and mentor to the individual.
Teach and further develop skills in communication, interaction and social behaviour.
To constantly be aware of and be flexible in meeting the needs of the individual.
Create opportunities for individuals to gain new experiences or practice the skills they possess or are in the process of learning.
To have an understanding that you may experience challenging and stressful situations.
To be able to work on a team and communicate progress or support required.
Qualifications:
Experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder is preferred. Leadership skills are an asset, and knowledge of building and maintaining a helping relationship.
Some post-secondary education is an asset.
Police Records Check with vulnerable Sector Check is required.
Valid drivers license and vehicle is an asset.
