Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS) Program assists newcomer students and their families adjust to the new school environment and the community. The SWIS worker will be under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and will be responsible for the following:
1. Provide newcomer students and families with immediate essential services required to support their transition into the Canadian school setting;
2. Establish and maintain contact with the newcomer families in order to determine their needs and issues;
3. Connect families to resources and services in the schools and the community;
4. Facilitate access to resources and services where there are language and cultural barriers;
5. Promote cultural sensitivity links between school staff and newcomer families.
6. Other related tasks.
Travel within the southwest region is required for this position.
