AIDS Saskatoon, a community-based harm reduction agency, is looking for a community minded and resourceful individual to fill the position of Support Worker. The Support Worker Position is responsible for providing support, information, advocacy and referrals for people living with, affected by and at-risk of HIV and HCV in Saskatoon.
Responsibilities
Work closely with the Support Services Coordinator to plan and implement all aspects of Support Services;
Engage target populations by appropriate means (one on one, public speaking, drop-in visits, support groups);
Ensure collection of required statistical and evaluation data;
Work in partnership with agencies, institutions and individuals who provide service to people living with HIV and HCV;
Provide transportation for people who access services to appointments;
Help people who access services with service navigation (Health, Justice, Income Assistance, Child and Family Services, etc.);
Be knowledgeable about AIDS Saskatoons programs and services, and develop an in-depth understanding of community partners and available resources;
Conduct self in a manner that maintains and promotes a positive image of AIDS Saskatoon, and is in keeping with policies, missions, goals and philosophies of the organization.
Must possess a valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle
Qualifications
Education in social work, social sciences, addictions or related discipline preferred;
Relevant life or work experience may be considered equivalent to education;
Thorough working knowledge of Harm Reduction practices and principles;
Experience with system navigation and community resources
