Title: Y-SHORE Case Worker
Reports to: YTU Coordinator
Based at: John Howard Society; Community
Hours: 30-40 hours/week
3-month probation and review
Hours are afternoon and evenings with one weekend day.
Job Purpose:
To implement the programming of Street Culture and its projects and ensure the delivery of standards of the organization and its partners contracts. You will be serving and mentoring youth involved Youth Supported Housing Operations and Resource Education program (Y-SHORE) and Street Culture at different levels. Youth Supported Housing Operations and Resource Education (Y-SHORE) is designed to offer aid in the search to find suitable long term housing for youth (aged 16-24) and support their growth and development as they transition from homelessness to independence. Homeless youth refers to youth who are staying at the shelter, couch surfing with friends, sleeping rough, or do not have a permanent place to stay. Youth will then be supported in seeking long term safe housing and will be fully responsible for following the lease and obeying all the guidelines. Mentors will provide continued support to youth living on their own and will meet with youth for 10-15 hours per week. During this time, youth will gain community connections, as well as find places to get a hot meal, clothing or extra support. Youth will be well versed in how to use public transportation and proper hygiene to maintain a clean environment. Youth will also be given support in job search or homework help depending on their individual needs, as well as creating and achieving goals
