Reporting to the Manager, Library Systems & Operations, the Programmer works as part of a professional IT services team to provide intermediate programming and systems administration for library applications and servers.
The Programmer is responsible for the programming components of new systems as well as the enhancement, maintenance and support of existing ones. Systems used include vendor on-premise and cloud software solutions, open source software and in-house custom applications. Use of tools and software development frameworks is a requirement due to the diverse nature of the work. The library operates Innovative Interfaces integrated library system including the online catalogue, circulation, acquisitions, cataloguing, electronic resources and patron web services modules; resource discovery tools (Primo) and link resolver (SFX) software; web content management systems (Drupal, Cascade), digital access and preservation repositories (D-Space, Islandora, AtoM), search services (Solr, ElasticSearch), and integration services for access (EZProxy). In addition, the position administers Windows and Linux servers.
