SUMMARY OF DUTY
The Director of Primary Health Care reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is accountable for leadership, management, and program development in the areas of public health, health facility clinical services, and primary care nursing in the communities of the Athabasca Health Authority. The major responsibilities include:
- Representing public health and primary care nursing programs in these communities at the Federal and Provincial program level;
- Assessing program needs and services, developing short and long range operational plans, budgeting, and establishing standards to ensure consistent high quality services;
- Supporting the Vision, Mission and Principles of the Athabasca Health Authority and its Strategic Plan;
- Adhering to the established service standards and driving quality improvement activities; and
- The recruitment, performance management and discipline, professional development and succession planning of the Primary Health Care staff.
REQUIREMENTS
- Current registration with Saskatchewan Association of Registered Nurse, with bachelor degree of Science in Nursing supplemented by graduate degree in a health discipline or equivalent.
- A good track record of working with public health care facilities and services providers associated with First Nations communities and federal/provincial government agencies. Experience in Northern Saskatchewan and First Nation locations considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a leader of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Well-developed critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills including facilitation and conflict resolution skills, as well as sound judgement.
- Residence in or willingness to relocate to the Northern Hamlet of Stony Rapids or the Black Lake First Nations Reserve.
