The primary purpose of this position is to develop, co-ordinate and instruct laboratory courses in the Soil Science undergraduate and graduate programs.
Reporting to the department head, the lab coordinator contributes to the student experience in the coordination and delivery of laboratory practicums and field trips. The lab coordinator must adapt to changing demands and conditions and work both collaboratively with primary instructors and independently in the development and delivery of laboratory exercises. Work flow must be planned to meet deadlines, handle peak periods and unexpected situations. Co-coordinating and participating in the delivery of laboratory sessions for approximately 500 to 550 students per year, the lab instructor typically adapts established methods and practices to solve problems, exercising judgement within established guidelines. Difficult or anomalous issues or problems will be discussed with the supervisor to determine appropriate solutions. Several labs involve a field component with off-campus preparation and instruction. Some heavy lifting of samples and instruments is also required.
