The Department has teaching and research needs in the areas of the sociology of religion, culture and social change, and local and global dimensions of social inequalities. The ideal candidate will offer courses in the area of First Nations and Indigenous studies that cover the
broader field including: Indigenous peoples politics and diplomacy, Indigenous feminism, Indigenous media representation, and Indigenous resurgence and the question of reconciliation. The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses selected from the following areas: introductory sociology; sociological theory; social movements; collective behavior; politics and social change. In addition to this,
the candidate will be expected to teach at the graduate level within the area of inequality and social change. We would welcome candidates interested in developing new course offerings in the area of culture, politics, and social change. Requirements for the position include: a Ph.D. (must be completed at time of appointment) in any area of sociology related to culture, politics, and social change, potential for a strong research program, and evidence of effectiveness in teaching and supervision. The successful
candidate will be expected to contribute to one or more of the following: STMs community service-learning program; the Minor in Critical Perspectives on Social Justice and the Common Good; or the Indigenous Engagement priority in the Colleges Strategic Plan 2015-2020. In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the Catholic intellectual tradition.
