Description

REQUIREMENTS:

1) Between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of employment
2)Registered as a full time student during the preceding academic year
3) Intends to return to school on a full time basis during the next academic year
4) Is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program
5) Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

QUALIFICATIONS:

1) High school diploma is a minimum requirement
2) Minimal work experience in an office environment
3) Experience using programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel, Access, etc. to produce correspondence, presentations, records, spreadsheets/databases and  to maintain/update websites

The Communications/Proposal Writing student will be responsible for updating and maintaining the organization's website and social media and starting quarterly electronic newsletter for our membership and community.

They will provide updates concerning upcoming events happening in Saskatoon and other Friendship Centre communities. The student will be in contact with all 11 Friendship Centres to stay up to date on what activities they are providing for Aboriginal People, Youth and Elders, employment opportunities, cultural and language preservation activities, and activities related to the TRC Calls to Action.

The student will be responsible for finding and writing proposals for grants that include the following:
Enhancing our Youth Council and Elder Council
Enhancing our cultural training provided for employees and AFCS members
Capital enhancements for the office such as electronic equipment and other upgrades
Funding for Aboriginal Language programming for our member Centres
Grants for research projects
Grants to provide additional employees to support the organizations mandate
