Overall Responsibility:
The Junior Literacy Assistant will provide support to the Literacy Coordinator and Summer Literacy Assistant. She or he will play an active role in assisting with the childrens summer programs.
Duties/Tasks:
o Assisting with the delivery of our summer literacy programs, Nature Smarts (a program for children from 4 to 14) and Summer English Fun (an English as an Additional Language program for children)
o Assisting in the planning of crafts, games, songs and rhymes for the programs
o Preparation of materials for the programs
o Loading materials for transportation to program locations
o Assisting with set-up of games and activities
o Assisting children with crafts
o Coordinating games
o Leading small groups of children in songs and finger plays
o Supervising and reading with participants in the programs
o Clean-up of materials
Experience:
o Previous experience working with children
Skills Required:
o Excellent written skills
o Excellent communication skills
o Ability to read out loud with enthusiasm
o Writing skills
o Computer skills
o Ability to work independently
o Time Management
o Ability to work as part of a team
o First Aid/CPR Level C
Terms of Employment: Summer Anticipated dates: June 11, 2016 training, June 20-Sept 2, 2016 Evenings and Saturdays maybe required.
Salary: $11.00/hr
Schedule: 18-20 hours per week.
