MLTC is seeking an energetic dynamic individual as the Traffic Safety Officer Liaison for the Department of Justice.
The Traffic Safety Officer position is responsible for promoting, coordinating, collaborating and enhancing community safety and awareness to member First Nations. This will assist in the development of strategies in the area of personal road/traffic safety and prevention.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Present and facilitate workshops on road safety
- Work in collaboration with existing community resources
- Develop and Coordinate Safety and Prevention initiatives in First Nations
- Identify areas where additional resources are required
- Safety and traffic safety in collaboration with Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI)
- Education/Awareness workshops to youth between the ages of 18-24.
- Promote and develop a program in cooperation with SGI that is culturally sensitive to the specific needs of each MLFN Community.
- Use SGIs Traffic Safety Strategy as a guide when developing and implementing initiatives
- Assist in planning and facilitating a Safety Summit
- Attend development training/seminars to enhance skills
- Provide awareness regarding federal and provincial regulations in the area of Traffic Acts.
- Provide written communication back to the referral source.
- Complete required mid-year and year-end service reports
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 Diploma or G.E.D
- Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, personal/professional integrity, and responsibility.
- Possess strong leadership skills, interpersonal skills; and event coordinating skills.
- Excellent public speaking/presentation skills
- Aware of FN governance systems
- Cree and Dene cultural values, customs and beliefs; able to speak Cree/Dene is an asset.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or within a team environment.
- Must have a valid driver's license and must be able to travel extensively.
