Description

The YWCA is a non-profit organization that exists to support and empower women, children and youth in addressing their diverse needs in the realization of their full potential.

We are seeking a Children's Program Assistant from mid-June to the end of August who will work with children in My Aunt's Place and the Isabel Johnson Shelter. The Program Assistant must be available evenings and weekends as required and must be returning to university in Sept 2016.

The Children's Program Assistant is responsible for planning and implementing activities and recreational events for children who are residing in a YWCA shelter with their mothers. The Children's Program Assistant works with the Children's Support Worker to assist with programming and services for children. You will be working directly with the children in a supportive and recreational capacity, planning age appropriate activities, involving children in decision making, promotion of enhanced literacy and safety education and acting as a positive role model.
Qualification:
-Must enjoy spending time with children of all ages;
-Experience working with children in a group setting and organizing activities for children of varying ages;
-Interest in reading, literacy development, arts and crafts;
-Interest and ability to participate in varied physical activities;
-Education and training in child development are an asset;
-Experience working with children who have experienced trauma, poverty or homelessness is an asset;
-Above average communication skills;
-Cross cultural sensitivity, knowledge of diversity;
-Must hold a valid driver's license
-Must be able to obtain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check;
-Have a valid CPR Level C/First Aid certification
