INDIAN RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL / CULTURAL SUPPORT COUNSELLOR
For the Community of La Ronge
Lac La Ronge Indian Band Health Services Department is inviting applications for a 1 (one) Year Temporary Full Time (till March 31, 2017) with possible extension, Indian Residential School (IRS)/Cultural Support Counsellor to assist in the Prevention & Recovery Program. This position requires living a healthy lifestyle and being familiar with Woodland Cree culture.
Duties:
- Plan, organize and teach culture events with the schools and communities;
- Knowledge and understanding of contemporary social, health , economic, and justice issues faced by First Nations;
- Responsible for the provision of support, referrals, cultural and education services in the field of Indian Residential Schools;
- Knowledge of First Nations cultures, communities and resources;
- Provide assessments of Clients;
- Provide assessment of individual, group and family counseling;
- Assist in crisis intervention planning for all communities;
- Work closely with other health teams in organizing health promotion events; Ability to work in a dynamic environment, as part of a team and with minimal direction;
- Work closely with other healthcare professionals in organizing events;
- Assist other health departments in the delivery of health programs;
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment, as part of a team and with minimal direction;
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or designate;

Qualifications:
- BSW/BISW or Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or Certificate in Social Work or Diploma in Justice Studies
- Excellent verbal, written communication and public relations skills;
- Ability to speak Cree, and knowledge of the Cree Culture is a definite asset;
- Satisfactory Criminal, Child Abuse & Drivers Record Checks;
- Must have a valid driver's license;
