Description

Seeking an enthusiastic and hard-working labourer for Department of Transportation and Environment. Full-time permanent in-scope position, reporting to the Manager of Public Works.

Duties & Responsibilities
-    Painting street lines, hydrants, and curbs
-    Manual labour, mostly outdoors
-    Assisting with day to day functions of the department including but not limited to:
Street Maintenance: patching, crack sealing, line marking, and sweeping streets
    Operation of heavy equipment
    Traffic Control: the maintenance of street signs, traffic control signs and traffic signals
    Drainage: clearing debris and blockages from catch basins, and removing weeds and debris from ditches
    Mosquito Control
    Maintain sewage lagoon, pump house and lift stations in the sewage system
    Maintain curb stops, valves and fire hydrants
    Sidewalk repairs
    Parking lot and town yard maintenance
Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications
-    Valid Class 5 Driver?s license
-    Standard First Aid and CPR/WHIMIS
-    Must possess a valid Driver's license
-    Be able to work in an independent environment and as part of a team
-    Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
The following skills are preferred but not necessary:
-    Heavy Equipment experience in municipal or comparable operations.
-    Knowledge of appropriate materials, methods, and the tools required.
-    Strong working mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance
-    Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule
-    Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures

This is a permanent full-time in-scope position requiring 40 hours per week (including shift work, call-outs, holidays, and weekends with overtime as required.)
