The Forage Breeding Program at the Crop Development Centre, Department of Plant Sciences University of Saskatchewan requires a junior level Research Technician who will work as part of a research team to support breeding and development of improved forage crop varieties
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will assist in the processing of forage breeding material outdoor in the field and inside in the laboratory. Duties will include seed set up, field data collection/note taking, Greenhouse and Phytotron work, seed processing, subsampling and grinding plant materials, subsample quality testing using NIR, fiber and protein analyzers; and computer work as assigned.
Qualifications: An undergraduate degree or diploma in plant sciences, agriculture or related field with one year of related research experience with agricultural crops and including the use of lab equipment (NIR, Fiber & Protein analyzer).
Candidates must possess excellent oral and written communications skills in the English language; and a good working knowledge of safety procedures and protocols.
One year term position with the possibility of extension, to commence April 1, 2016. Salary to commensurate with qualifications/experience (Phase 2 Research Applied Scientific Services $36,852-$44,200).
