Institution/Organization: The Melville Heritage Museum houses over 10,000 artifacts on four floors in order to provide visitors with information on the history and ethnic diversity of Melville and information on early Lutheran education in Saskatchewan.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Assume responsibility for Museums artifact and archival collections including a working knowledge of all Museum policies and procedures.
Accept new items for the Museum collections with the final approval of the Museums Acquisitions Committee. Document, research, inventory, accession, catalogue, computerize and digitize images (where possible), and clean and maintain items for their storage or display as necessary.
Maintain all paperwork according to current operating Museum standards and procedures (donor and in-house records), and other general correspondence.
Create displays, organize and promote collections to expand community interest.
To arrange, promote and conduct museum tours and assist with museum events as required.
Perform visitor services and other administrative duties as required, including gift shop sales, guest book, seasonal visitor statistics, tracking volunteer hours and accounting for monetary donations.
Train and supervise summer student(s)
Attend board meeting(s) as requested.
Skills and Requirements:
Working knowledge of Museum Policies and Procedures
Positive attitude and self-motivated
Be familiar with Standards of Saskatchewan Museums
Good communication skills and writing ability
Experience an asset.
The successful applicant will be expected to work 5 days per week (30 hours). Weekends may be required.
