Reporting to the Supervisor of Special Constables, the Special Constable/Community Safety Officer is responsible for enforcing municipal bylaws, nine provincial statutes, and several Acts (Traffic Safety, Alcohol and Gaming Regulation, Highways and Transportation, Litter Control, All-Terrain Vehicles, Snowmobile, Cities, Trespass to Properties, Mental Health Services, etc.
You will work collectively and patrol the community on a regular basis for enforcement, prevention, intervention, and education with regular interaction and liaison with RCMP.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide direction, coaching, and mentoring to community youth and organizations
Build and maintain strong working relationships with RCMP, Provincial and Municipal authorities and community organizations
Enforce 9 Provincial Acts and City bylaws
Coordinate and prepare reports and presentations as required
Review and prepare recommendations relative to departmental policy, procedures and bylaws
Development of plans, standard operating procedures, scheduling, filing and other related duties)
Maintain management record system
Respond to inquiries and complaints promptly, effectively and professionally
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid class 5 license and a clean drivers abstract
Grade 12
Law & Security Diploma/Certificate in Police/Justice Studies an asset
Alberta Community Peace Officer 1 Certification or equivalent
Baton and OC spray certification
Radar/Lidar certification
Defensive Driving
Certification in self-defense
Conflict resolution training
Criminal Records and Enhanced Criminal Records Checks through RCMP
Successful completion of Physical Abilities Evaluation Test (PARE)
First Aid, CPR
Snow mobile, all-terrain training/certification an asset
Heavy vehicle weight certification/training an asset
Firefighting experience an asset
