JOB DESCRIPTION:
Help with:
-- Unwrapping hives
-- Performing spring maintenance on hives
-- Feeding bees
-- Making nucleus hives
-- Helping with queen rearing
-- Catching and installing queens
-- Building equipment
-- Working with power tools
-- Supering hives
-- Pulling honey
-- Extracting honey
-- Preparing hives for winter
-- Wrapping hives
--MUST be able to stack and lift heavy boxes and work in summer heat.
--MUST be able to work with power tools.
--MUST be available to work evenings, weekends and
holidays. We work 6 days/week and typically 8am-8pm. Some very early mornings may be required in order to move hives.
--Because of the seasonality of farm work, labour law does not mandate overtime pay on farms.
--The positions starting in April must have at least one season of experience working with honeybees.
--The positions starting in June must have some experience handling honeybees. This does not have to be work experience. There are two courses offered in the province where an individual could acquire basic safety experience and a basic comfort level with honeybee hives.
--Applicants cannot have an allergy to honeybee stings.
