Description

The Parish Assistant shares in the overall care of the parish. He or she is a member of the parish staff & is accountable to the pastor. The parish assistant role provides administrative support & provides support & guidance to all aspects of parish life with designated responsibilities.

Duties:
Administrative:
Assisting people on the phone & in person
Keeping records
Administrative & typing duties
Pay bills
Order supplies for Parish
Support other local Parishes
Other various administrative duties
Be available in parish office for office hours approximately 20-25 hours/week

Pastoral Worker:
Valid driving license & vehicle required
Flexibility in work schedule; willing to work in evenings (& weekends, if needed)
Be present at Saturday & Sunday liturgies when possible
Be available to attend diocesan functions as determined by the pastor
Facilitator & support to all parish activities & ministries as outlined in parish organizational chart including, but not limited to, providing administrative support, volunteer recruitment & overall assistance with programming where needed to support & empower volunteers.
Coordinate all activities that involve youth in the church as part of the Youth Ministry ie. spiritual & recreational activities
Attend ministerial association meetings as a support and liaison
Attend Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) meetings (as a non-voting member)

Qualifications & Skills
Knowledge of:
Canon Law & Church history
Stages of human & faith development
The liturgical norms of the Church
Is able to make decisions & assume responsibility for delegated tasks.
Can negotiate & manage conflict.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally & in writing.
Skilled in public relations.
Able to work with others in a collaborative style.
Able to assist volunteers in development & administering of programs to meet assessed needs.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Products, MS Office Suite
Grade 12 with Admin education considered an asset
