Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is Canadas national synchrotron research facility located on the campus of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. Applications are now being accepted for the permanent position of Science Associate to join the Biological X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (BioXAS) team.
BioXAS is part of the Bio/Life Sciences Group in the Science Division and is currently under commissioning. BioXAS consists of two X-ray absorption spectroscopy beamlines and a single X-ray fluorescence imaging beamline all operable simultaneously and independently. Providing hard X-rays in the range of 5-28 keV, these high performance beamlines will allow the study of metals at scientifically relevant concentrations. BioXAS will propel Canada to the forefront of research into the roles of metals in biology, medicine, and environmental toxicology.
Position Summary: Reporting to the Beamline Scientists, the successful applicant will support the scientific research programs on BioXAS by ensuring that the beamlines and the associated laboratories are properly functioning and maintained. As a member of the BioXAS team, the Science Associate will provide routine operational support, coordinate upgrades, calibration, and testing of beamline equipment and work with the appropriate CLS technical staff to do so. The Science Associate will also assist BioXAS staff in the normal operation of the beamlines, and provide training and support to users. Beamline related activities and responsibilities in this position are specific to the spectroscopy beamlines of BioXAS and do not normally include the imaging beamline. Science Associates are also encouraged to take active collaborative roles in the research performed at BioXAS. Working on-call, evenings and weekends is a requirement for this position.
