OFF CAMPUS - CLEARWATER RIVER DENE NATION, SK

Are you familiar with the Dene Suline language in the Clearwater River Dene Nation/La Loche area, and looking for casual work?

The First Nations University of Canada, Department of Indigenous Languages, Arts and Cultures (DILAC), Regina Campus is accepting applications for Research Assistants from the Clearwater River Dene Nation/La Loche, Saskatchewan area to assist in the Dene Suline Language Acquisition Project that takes place from November, 2015 to March, 2018. While we will begin interviewing in November, we anticipate that we will need Research Assistants for the duration of the project.

Reporting to Dr. Olga Lovick, DILAC Faculty member, the Research Assistants will be responsible for preparing pre-recorded Dene Suline interviews for transcription.  Training on specialized ELAN software will be provided.  Work location will be at the Clearwater River Dene School or a mutually agreed upon location.

Qualifications and Duties:

Applicants must be 18 years or older and will be required to comply with a Code of Conduct.  Applicants should have good communication and literacy skills in the Dene Suline and English language; the ability to work independently; basic computer skills; and, be willing to learn the use of ELAN computer software.

Responsibilities:  View assigned video files on a computer and listen to the soundtrack.  Identify all participants, prepare digital transcription file on ELAN software with separate lines for each participant.  Create an entry for each piece of spoken language.  Training on ELAN software will be provided.  The Research Assistant is responsible for providing his/her own transportation to/from the work location.

Days/Hours of Work: The hours of work will average 20 to 30 hours per month.  

Length of Term:  November, 2015 to November, 2016 with the possibility of extension.

Salary:  To commensurate with education and experience.  Range of pay ($13.21 to $18.08)
