POSITION AUTHORITY:
Responsible for the provision of direct services and support to the residents of the Centre
Responsible for the provision of support and referral to persons who phone on the Crisis Line and on the Centre line
Answers directly to the Shelter Coordinator
CONFIDENTIALITY:
Shall maintain confidentiality regarding the residents, staff, Board and Business matters
DUTIES/CRITICAL FACTORS:
Responsible for:
-determine eligibility of clients
-Providing support and non-judgmental listening in the areas of problem-solving, decision-making, and mediation by telephone and in person to residents, former residents and potential resident women
-Assessment and case planning
-providing advocacy and referral services as required
-coordination of resident appointments and transportation needs
-ensuring the security and protection of families in the Centre
-conducting group work in the Centre
-assisting with resident relocations
-providing transportation for children to and from school when necessary
-organizing house meetings with the residents
-Maintaining records, reports and forms
-attend schedule staff meetings
-participating in the development of policies regarding day to day operations
-participating in the orientation of new shelter workers and casual staff
-competent coverage of the crisis line and all procedures associated with it
-day to day maintenance of the Centre
-perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director in regards to the care of the residents and the effective functioning and maintenance of the house
-good interpersonal skills
-good communication skills
-must be able to cope with stress
-must be in good physical health
-must be a good role model
-must have a wellness plan for themselves
-must be able to pass a police security check and child abuse record check
-must have a valid driver?s license
-must be able to work shifts
-Post-secondary ed. preferably in Social Work or equivalent
-Cree or Dene language would be an asset
