Description

The YWCA is seeking applications for a Casual Resident Support Worker for My Aunt's Place, a 22 bed emergency shelter for homeless women and their children and the Kikinaw Women's Residence, a 54 bed facility for single women.  The hours  vary but include day, evening and overnight shifts.
The Resident Worker is responsible for providing practical support to all residents and ensuring the smooth operation of the office.  The Resident Support Worker will be under the direct supervision of the Manager.

Responsibilities are:
-Provide practical support for all aspects of a family's stay;
-Provide information, education and support to women as needed;
-Provide referrals and advocacy to ensure that women have the necessary support to deal with barriers regarding housing;
-Maintain an orderly and comfortable environment
-Assist with shelter programming;
-Respond to crisis situations
-Answer shelter phones, record calls, screen requests for entry and respond to requests for information;
-Complete intake and departure procedures, maintain accurate records, assist with transportation and the daily operation of shelter.

Successful applicants will have demonstrated experience in working with the complex issues of homelessness.  In addition, this position must possess knowledge of addictions, mental health, poverty and abuse and their impact on the lives of women and children. You must be able to manage and respond to crisis situations. An ability to use a computer, good communication skills and a clear understanding of teamwork are essential.

Post secondary education in the social science field and/or at least two years experience working with families who face barriers to a healthy life is required. An understanding of cultural issues is essential.

Successful applicants must be able to provide a satisfactory criminal record check/vulnerable sector check, have a valid driver's license and provide a current CPR/First Aid certification.
