Job Description: The Public Health Nurse Specialist, based in the Population Health Unit for the three northen health authorities, develops, recommends and provides leadership, consultation and clinical assistance in implementing public health nursing policies and programs. The primary content areas include tuberculosis, travel health, maternal-child health, school health, chronic disease and injury prevention, and building capacity in the use of population health promotion strategies. This position collaborates with Population Health Unit colleagues, northern health authorities and provincial counterparts to develop and implement strategies for northern and provincial public health initiatives. Duties also include: researching best practice, collaborating to improve public health nursing practice, providing supervision to TB Outreach RN, providing case management and coordination of selected communicable disease follow-up, providing coverage for the Communicable Disease Nurse Specialist and HIV Strategy Coordinator, as required.
Qualifications:
Registration with SRNA; A Bacheloro=s degree in Nursing; indepth knowledge and experience in public health nursing practice; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and the confidence of others as an advisor on Public Health Nursing programs; skills in critical thinking, team building, group facilitation, developing and implementing educational sessions, effective written and oral communication; competency in using Microsoft Office applications; Ability to maintain a current drivero=s license and travel on paved or gravel roads and in chartered or scheduled aircraft.
