Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development, maintenance and implementation of CLS radiation protection and control program to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, provincial and municipal regulations and standards. Conducting regular radiological surveys of accelerator and synchrotron beamline enclosures, performing verification and validation of personnel radiation protection systems, carrying out all aspects of personnel dosimetry and area radiation monitoring, conducting radiation measurements and inspections of workplaces is fundamental to this role, as is recommending corrective and preventative actions where there is non-conformance. The candidate will work with radioactive material by providing support to the both the synchrotron and medical isotope production facilities, ensuring the safe transport and/or disposal of such materials. Maintaining proper records pertaining to personnel dosimetry, instrument calibration, radioactive sealed sources, water sampling, radioactive contamination, personnel radiation protection system, area radiation monitoring, inspection reports, and inventory/disposal of radioactive and/or hazardous material is an important aspect of this position. Testing, calibrating, using and maintaining a variety of radiation detection and monitoring equipment is required to gather data and maintain required records. The candidate is also expected to respond to accidents or emergency situations involving radioactive or hazardous materials, radiation protection systems, or radiological work which includes participating in the investigation and reporting of findings and recommendations.  Occasional shift work and on-call duties are a requirement of the position.
