Job Description: GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the Health Promotion Coordinator is accountable for leadership, program development and delivery of health promotion and disease prevention activities in the Athabasca Basin.  While the position is located in the AHA Facility at Stony Rapids, the Health Promotions Coordinator works collaboratively with health service providers across the Athabasca Basin through program support, nutrition counseling and community education to promote healthy lifestyles choices and healthy environments, and prevent chronic disease and disability.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Developing a comprehensive Health Education and Promotion Strategy for the Athabasca Health Authority and its member communities.

Assisting health clinics and health facility with the development, implementation and evaluation of new and existing program initiatives.

Coaching and building capacity of health services staff and families.

Conducting nutrition assessments and arranging for appropriate follow-up with clients.

Offering group activities that create awareness of chronic conditions, prevention strategies, adult health screening and support self-management education.

Offering regular visits to the AHA communities (i.e. some travel required).


QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in Nutrition and recognized dietetic practicum.

Registration with the SDA.
  
Previous experience in Population Health Promotion; familiarity with public health objectives

Experience working in a cross-cultural setting; knowledge/awareness of First Nations/Dene culture is an asset

Current certification in CPR and First Aid
