Heavy Equipment Operator Program - Competition#: I-0215
The Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor will be responsible for delivering SIIT programs and curricula. This program is designed to provide training in the operation of heavy equipment, routine maintenance of machinery and practical field operations of excavating, land clearing, grading and road building as well as safe operating techniques specific to each machine. The HEO program concentrates on hands-on skill development with approximately 80% of the program spent in the field and on the machines, and 20% in the classroom. This position is to organize and implement instructional activities which create a learning environment that guides and provides the greatest opportunity for student success. These include the following broad range of accountabilities:
o Deliver courses relating to: safety, maintenance, and a variety of HEO fundamentals
o Complete all course-required materials including evaluations, attendance records and course evaluations
o Use appropriate methods of evaluating and recording student progress within set time frames
o Ensure a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment
o Adhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT policies and procedures
o Maintain classroom and shop discipline and, if necessary, recommend action to applicable supervisor regarding student behavior, including formal student disciplinary action
o Make recommendations to modify course objectives, course outlines, curriculum and evaluation procedures.

Required Qualifications and Experience: Extensive knowledge and work experience in Heavy Equipment Operating. Knowledge of First Nations culture and organizations is considered an asset. Prior experience teaching First Nations Adults is an asset.
