The Role:
Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications.
Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards and conduct negotiations.
Establish and maintain tendering process and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts.
Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
The Ideal Candidate:
A degree / diploma in construction engineering, civil technologies or a related field, or equivalent vocational training and experience
Several years of contractor estimating experience for industrial projects including oil and gas, mechanical, piping, building services, electrical and civil disciplines.
Several years of field experience demonstrating knowledge of construction methods, safe work practices, direct field productivities, project indirect costs and sequencing of project activities.
Knowledge of contract language / Terms and Conditions / Bonding etc.
Knowledge of associated labour agreement impacts.
Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals and accounting / reporting.
Knowledge and competency estimating software such as Hard Dollar and Accubid.
Knowledge and competency with 3D modeling software and CAD.
Valid drivers license and ability to travel as required.
Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) or Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) is an asset.
