Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is Canada's national synchrotron research facility located on the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon. The CLSI is seeing a leader for the team that operates the user program and provides ongoing scientific and technical developments for the Soft X-ray Spectromicroscopy Beamline. User experiments cover areas of materials, environmental, and biological sciences.
Responsibilities: As a member of the CLSI Science Division, the Staff Scientist is accountable for:
* Leadership and management of the beamline and beamline staff
* Developing and maintaining the beamline as a reliable, state-of-the-art facility
* Providing user support and scheduling beamline operation
* Producing documentation and protocols for beamline operation
* Providing scientific leadership for the beamline by working with the beamline team leader and others in the scientific community
* Leading and/or collaborating on research projects that utilize synchrotron soft x-ray spectromicroscopy
Qualifications: PhD degree in a relevant discipline (Physics, Chemistry, Engineering) plus considerable experience in one or more of the application areas of X-ray spectromicroscopy such as surface science, materials, catalysis, chemistry, life sciences or environmental sciences. Knowledge of general experimental practices and instrumental expertise for synchrotron X-ray spectroscopy and with STXM and X-PEEM microscopes is important. Expertise with instrumentation and controls is essential. Skills in working with diverse research groups, to understand abstract concepts and aid in interpreting results is an asset.
