The Saskatchewan Multiple Sclerosis Clinical Research Chair arose through the combined vision and efforts of the Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation, the MS Society of Canada, the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation and the citizens of Saskatchewan in the fight against MS. Saskatchewan, Canada has a unique convergence of facilities, resources, researchers, doctors and patients; this presents an exceptional opportunity for MS research, and the City of Saskatoon, where the prevalence of MS is among the highest in the world. The MS Clinical Research Chair will mobilize groups into effective and positive action, helping to achieve their vision of Saskatchewan as a leader in MS patient care and applied clinical research. The Chair will benefit from having access to the universitys world class facilities including the Canadian Light Source synchrotron, featuring biomedical imaging and therapy beamlines, and the Cameco MS Neuroscience Research Center.
Reporting directly to the Dean, College of Medicine, the Chair will be responsible for providing clinical research that will identify causes of MS and/or develop new or improved treatments and therapies, with the ultimate goal being to prevent and cure MS. The clinical research program, under the leadership of the Chair, will attract and retain qualified researchers, clinicians and students to continue to build a successful infrastructure for MS clinical research provincially, nationally, and internationally. It is expected that the Chair will provide direction to research faculty, staff, students, and residents in addition to faculty duties as assigned with approval by the Dean.
