The Department of History at the University of Saskatchewan seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor who specializes in western Canadian history, effective July 1, 2016.
We seek a scholar who will have research expertise in social or cultural history of an aspect of Canadian prairie history. Her/his research strengths and graduate training will complement one or more of our established areas of strength: Indigenous, Colonial and Post-colonial Histories; Environmental; Gender and Sexuality; Great Plains; Science, Medicine and Health; Twentieth century politics, culture and foreign policy; and the History and Politics of Memory. This position will be filled by a teacher/scholar who is committed to researching and communicating history that resonates off campus as well as in academia.
A completed Ph.D. is required by the time of appointment and the successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally-funded research program. Applicants should demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and graduate supervision. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the Department of Historys new first year History Matters suite of courses; develop specialized undergraduate courses in western Canadian histories; and participate in the graduate program, in particular, supervising MA and PhD candidates in western Canadian social and cultural histories. A generous package of start-up grants for research purposes will be available upon hiring.
