Description

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the communications specialist will provide a range of services to support all of the communications needs of the organization including writing and editing for print and digital media, media relations, responding to requests for information from internal and external stakeholders and generating content to advance organizational goals.

The successful candidate will be an excellent writer and skilled in traditional and new media. A key attribute is the ability to effectively communicate complex issues to varied audiences on appropriate platforms.

Necessary skills and abilities include:

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal       communication skills
Proven experience in the strategic use of social media
Experience in writing website copy, annual reports and newsletters
Experience in communication planning and implementation
Experience in media relations and a solid understanding of CP style
Well developed project management and organizational skills
Experience in event management
Proficiency in computer applications including MS Office and Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop

Duties include but are not limited to:
editing, organizing and distributing the SCAs publications
writing and distributing news releases and other external communications
responding to media requests as they come in
maintaining and updating the SCA website
strategic use of social media for SCA news releases, newsletter distribution, events, etc.
build SCA following on Twitter and other platforms
event management

Qualifications
Applicants must have a degree or diploma in journalism and experience in communications, public relations or a related field. Knowledge of agriculture production and the beef cattle industry would be considered an asset.
