The incumbent is responsible for accessioning, testing, interpreting and reporting results. The incumbent performs, verifies and documents routine maintenance and verification procedures of laboratory equipment in accordance with approved work instructions and regulated requirements. The incumbent must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting the elements of the Canadian Blood Services Strategy.
- Perform testing procedures.
- Accession patient samples for testing.
- Ensures all reagents, supplies and equipment are available for operations.
- Operates, maintains and performs troubleshooting for a variety of laboratory instruments to ensure optimal function.
- Assist the Manager and Technologist IIb in the development of work instructions.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Technology training program with attained general certification or eligibility for certification by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is required.
A current license with the provincial College of Medical Laboratory Technology (if applicable) and the Saskatchewan Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists (SSMLT) is required.
- Minimum of six months previous laboratory experience in a transfusion medicine laboratory or other related discipline is required.
- Knowledge of hospital and good laboratory practices and procedures is required.
- Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is preferred Basic computer skills are required.
- Ability to pass all required job competency assessments required.
