Job Description: The Communicable Disease/Immunization Coordinator coordinates the followup and reporting of notifiable diseases, under the Public Health Act, for the three northern health authorities, in collaboration with the Medical Health Officers and other Population Health Unit colleagues; develops and oversees the orientation and continuing education program for the public health nurses regarding immunization and communicable disease control; develops CD/Immunization policy and program guidelines; researches best practices and serves as a resource person for all health care providers; serves on provincial committees and networks regarding CD/immunization programs; other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Nursing
Registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
Ability to adapt to changing conditions
Ability to travel both within the region and provincially
Knowledge of community development
Knowledge of diverse health issues, culture and traditions
Knowledge of population health
- progressive experience in public health/primary care nursing
- experience in communicable disease control and immunization
- demonstrated skills in leadership, problem solving, effective working relations, ability to maintain confidence of others as and advisor on CD/Immunization programs, teaching, computerized data entry
- ability to integrate national and provincial guidleines and knowledge about northern community health problems and resources into CD/Imm policy and programs
- ability to travel by small air
