Duties and responsibilities:
- Assist individuals experiencing a cognitive disability or mental illness to prepare for, secure and maintain volunteer placements in the community as a means to increase community inclusion
- Responsible for recruiting, training, matching, supervising volunteers, and/or providing guidance, support, resources and tools to volunteers to ensure successful match for one on one or group activities
- Creates opportunities for community members and agencies to be connected to individuals experiencing disabilities to foster a sense of community integration
- Develop volunteer placements by assessing community needs and partnering with Community Based Organizations in Yorkton
- Responsible for the Volunteer of the Month Recognition Program
- Uphold mission, vision and values of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelors degree in the human service field or equivalent professional designation obtained through a 2 year post secondary program
- Valid drivers licence
Experience:
- Must have experience in a volunteer role
- Marketing and/or sales experience is an asset
- Experience working with people with disabilities is an asset
Skills:
- Knowledge of and ability to work with individuals with multiple barriers, disabilities and challenging behaviors
- Strong marketing skills that include being patient and persistent
- Goal oriented to achieve the program targets
- A strong service ethic that projects a can-do attitude in communicating with members, families, co-workers, supervisors, volunteers and community partners
- Effective time management, organizational skills, and creative solution focused approach to problem solving
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Other: Must have a reliable vehicle to use for transporting individuals to and from meetings/volunteer placements
