Description

The Student Wellness Counsellor builds support and access for students to experience optimum success in learning. The SWC works closely with T4EA staff, school staff and other supporting agencies, such as Indian Child and Family Services and Prevention, to gather data and information (risk factors, barriers, gaps) to improve student success in learning. The SWC will (individually and collaboratively) design and implement appropriate strategies and supports for individual students, groups of students, families/caregivers, and school staff as appropriate. The SWC provides direct support to students, and creates linkages, partnerships and referral/access to external resources, such as preventative programming, social services support, mental health, special education/enrichment support.

To be successful in this role, you thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment where you work closely with a variety of people and situations to navigate sensitive situations. You will be comfortable implementing confidential processes, communication systems and reporting.  Ideally, you will also be someone who is adept at working with and across teams, with an ever-present focus on supporting, respecting and building the strongest potential for student holistic wellbeing in learning and life. As a First Nations organization, T4EA is committed to supporting alliance schools, and their staff and learners with culturally appropriate and responsive supports and resources; this individual is comfortable in cross-cultural situations and has a strong social justice stance that honours the cultural context of First Nations education.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience preferred (Social Work, Education, Human Justice or related field). A Masters Degree is not required but would be considered an asset.
