SUMMARY: The Kahkewistahaw First Nation is seeking a highly enthusiastic committed individual to fill the position of Pasture Rider (Labourer) position at Kahkewistahaw First Nation. The Pasture Rider is a position that is supervised by the Pasture Manager. He/she will be responsible for the pasture rider, ensuring the duties, principles, rules and structure that apply to Kahkewistahaw Lands and Resources and by which the Kahkewistahaw First Nation will be fulfilled in accordance with the First Nations Lands Management Act.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Work experience in managing pastures
- Good working experience riding horses & handling cattle
- Good communication skills (written and oral) to effectively deal with staff & the public
- Ability to work independently & cooperatively as a team member
- Must have good organizational skills, excellent multi-tasking decision making
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Care for patrons livestock while in the pasture by; administering medication; prepare livestock oilers; set out salt/mineral blocks to promote the health care of animals.
- Handle livestock, including roping from horseback
- Monitor feed & water levels for livestock in the pasture
- Move & sort livestock for branding, vaccinating; rotating to other areas of the pasture or returning livestock to owner for removal from pasture as directed by the Lands Manager.
- Perform repairs & maintenance on pasture corrals, fences, buildings & equipment
- Maintain accurate records of medication given to livestock & operating farm equipment.
- Provide, obtain & exchange clear, accurate information with clients, department staff & the public.
- Able to take direction.
