Sr. Engineer, Rock Mechanics
Saskatoon
POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The sr. engineer, rock mechanics position reports to the principal engineer and resides within the technical services department in the Saskatoon office. The technical services department is responsible for providing technical expertise to operating and potential new mining and milling sites in the areas of mining, metallurgy and ground freezing.
Working with the Saskatoon based mine engineering team, you will provide technical assistance in rock mechanics at operating mines, support mining feasibility studies on new deposits or expansion projects and keep abreast of new equipment and products to support safe and cost effective mining operations. You will also participate on teams evaluating plausible mining scenarios and operational economics for potential property acquisitions worldwide.
This position will require multi-day visits to operating mine sites to conduct activities such as project related work, technical audits and/or incident investigations
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements of the position:
Bachelors degree in geotechnical, geological or mine engineering
Seven to 12 years of relevant work experience
Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered
Previous experience as a ground control engineer at multiple underground mine sites
Eligible for registration with APEGS
Travel to operating mine sites as required
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
Assets:
Masters or doctorate degree
Rock mechanics experience in an open pit mine environment
Experience directly managing engineers, hydrogeologists, geologists and technicians
