Description

Dates: tentatively May 19 to Aug. 21, 2015

With the guidance of the Childrens Programmer, the Programming Assistant plans and leads childrens programs for children 3 mo. to 12 yrs. Programs include the TD Summer Reading Program, TD Fun for Babes and Tots, Families in the Park, and Storybird Workshops. Our programs involve performing puppet plays, storytelling, singing, leading games and activities, and working with crafts and technology.

Duties:
-Preparing detailed lesson plans, preparing materials, assisting with or leading children's programs, recording program attendance, and writing program reports.
-Promoting library programs and services.
-Preparing posters and promotional materials.
-Answers directional questions and questions about library programming, and refers other questions to the appropriate staff member.
-Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
-Eligible for Canada Summer Jobs program: between 15 and 30 years of age; a full-time student during the preceding and following academic years; a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident, and legally entitled to work in Sask.
-Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program, preferably in Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Work, or in a program related to working with children and community programming.
-Valid drivers license & willing to travel to Chinook Regional Library rural branch locations.
-Experience working with children, able to lead large groups of children effectively.
-Strong planning, organizational & technology skills.
-Able to take initiative and work with minimum supervision.
-Understanding and appreciation of the philosophy of public library service to people of different ages and cultural backgrounds.
-Able to stand for periods of time, able to move library furniture as needed, able to lift boxes of materials up to 18 kg.
-Evening and weekend shifts may be required.
