This summer student position coordinates all aspects of the North Central Community Gardens including volunteer management, educational workshops, resident engagement, and community development. You must be a post-secondary student returning to school in the Fall of 2015 in order to be eligible for this position; if you are not a returning student your application will not be considered due to funding conditions for this position.
Responsibilities
Volunteer management: recruit and organize volunteers to care for the gardens
Engaging residents and encourage them to use the gardens
Community and resident food distribution
Distributing information about the gardens
Garden maintenance
Coordinating community partnerships
Planning summer community celebrations
Planning harvest activities and celebrations
Researching and maintaining culturally significant plants
Liaising with Elders and cultural community leaders
Working in an outdoor environment
Reporting
Qualifications
Good written and verbal communication skills to a diverse audience
Possess valid driver?s license
Knowledge of food gardening
Knowledge of North Central neighbourhood and services are an asset
Group facilitation experience is an asset
Be able to do physical labour including lifting 40 lbs safely, bending and kneeling
Use of Microsoft Office especially Word and Excel
Standard First Aid - CPR and FoodSafe are an asset
