Description

Under the supervision and direction of the Chief Executive Officer, manages an Area Office, supervises all personnel within an Area Office and provides legal services to eligible clients.
Responsible for the management of an Area Office, including the offices resources and staff, by ensuring compliance with program, operational and personnel policies and procedures, and controlling fiscal operations
Responsible for the conduct, direct supervision and coordination of all personnel within an Area Office, by orienting and training employees, communicating expectations, assessing professional growth, monitoring, coaching, counseling and disciplining employees
Provides quality services by establishing and ensuring adherence to standards and developing and maintaining a collaborative working environment
Subject to The Legal Aid Act and The Legal Aid Regulations, and the Code of Professional Conduct of the Law Society of Saskatchewan, provides and is fully responsible for legal services to eligible clients where the matter is considered by the lawyer to have professional merit.
Legal Services include (as defined in The Legal Aid Regulations):
    interviewing applicants to determine financial, range of service and professional merit eligibility,
    representing a client in Provincial and superior courts
    preparing documents, briefs and pleadings
    employing non-legal expertise
    interviewing witnesses
    mediating between a client and opposing party
    providing general legal advice and information
Researches legal issues
Maintains a state of competence on a continuing basis in all areas which the Legal Director practices, including maintenance and improvement of knowledge and skills
Maintains familiarity with the Commissions policies and procedures and ensures staff are also aware.
