Description

A full-time Research Technician is required in the Molecular Crop Quality group. Duties include: carry out standard lab protocols including DNA and RNA extractions, recombinant protein expression, genotyping using existing markers, care & maintenance of plants in the phytotron and greenhouse, basic data analyses and reporting of results to Research Scientist.  Trouble-shoot problems with protocols in conjunction with the supervisor, keep detailed notes on procedures used and results obtained and communicate effectively with all lab members and external collaborators to keep projects on time. Will also be required to perform outdoor field plot work.

Qualifications: BSc in Plant Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline.  Experience in molecular biology techniques including DNA extraction, PCR, gene expression studies and protein purification and characterization is expected.  Familiar with next generation sequencing strategies, must possess a working knowledge of MS Word & Excel, knowledge of computer programs related to linkage mapping, QTL analysis, primer design, and sequence analysis would be an asset.   Must be motivated, reliable and well organized; able to work in a multi-disciplinary group environment. Experience with small plot field experiments and data collection will be an added asset. Involves limited travel outside the Saskatoon are - must hold a valid class 5 drivers license. Must possess excellent oral and written communications skills in the English language.
