Description

The Lodge is seeking a responsible, mature and well organized individual who is responsible for the provision of nutritious and healthy meals and snacks for the residents of the centre & staff from Monday to Friday.

This position is also responsible for the purchasing of food and supplies, ensuring hygiene and safe food handling procedures are adhered to and ensuring a clean and sanitary kitchen.  

Under the direction of the Administrative Supervisor, this position will work 8 hours/day, however, there may be times when extra hours or flexibility in hours are required depending on need.  

General duties include:

-  Preplan 3-6 week menus and preparation of 3 daily meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), morning, mid-day and evening snacks, Monday to Friday for youth and taking into account individual diet needs (i.e. allergies)
-  Preparation of weekend meals and snacks for the weekend staff to prepare.
-  Cooking and baking as required
-  Monitoring and keeping track of the food inventory and re-ordering as required
-  Ensures all food items are dated in the fridge, freezer and ensures that there is no wastage.
-  Wears hair net and gloves when preparing food.
-  Ensures all areas in the kitchen and dining area is cleaned and sanitized according to cleaning schedules.
-  General maintenance of kitchen equipment
-  Cleaning of walk-in cooler, freezers and fridges
-  Knowledge or preparation of ceremonial food is an asset

Applicants must have:
-  Valid Safe Food Handling Certificate
-  Knowledge & experience of the Canada's Food Guide
-  Experience working in a commercial kitchen setting
-  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
-  An interest and ability to work with youth (patience)
-  Addiction free lifestyles
-  A sincere interest in supporting First Nations Culture
-  Valid Saskatchewan Driver's License
-  Acceptable CPIC and Child Abuse Registry Check
-  Must be able to lift 10-25 lbs - groceries/supplies
